Charlevoix artist Linda Boss paints landscapes and landmarks in acrylics and oils – created the Pure Charlevoix Collection to encompass the largest body of her work, and recently opened up to explore abstract painting, something that has been on her bucket list.
She moved to Charlevoix at age 15 and went to Charlevoix High School. Her husband Jim, is one of the Petunia Bosses, a longtime Charlevoix family. They have been together since high school. She is a graduate of the Art Institute in Florida specializing in graphic design, marketing, and visual communications.
Linda has been creating art commercially since she was six. She was paid for a drawing featured in an ad published in a local paper. Though formally trained as a graphic artist, her passion is painting. Known for her paintings of the Charlevoix Lighthouse and the drawbridge, she has also illustrated and painted hundreds of homes, businesses and scenes of Charlevoix and the surrounding area. She has captured “her era” in the history of this tiny resort town located on three lakes. The town famous for it’s beautiful harbor, drawbridge and 60,000 colorful petunias.
She is also the designer for the “official” Charlevoix city flag and her painting, “Celebrate Charlevoix!” was the 2008 Venetian Festival featured painting. Linda’s paintings, drawings and designs have been used on a cookbook cover and interior illustrations. She has designed hundreds of logos, signs, t-shirts, posters, flyers and advertisements for over 30 years. If you were a fan of the Charlevoix Home Tour, you saw her illustrations on promotional pieces for fifteen years. Her artwork has been included in Crooked Tree juried fine art exhibitions, numerous Charlevoix Circle of Arts juried art exhibits, Jordan River Arts Council shows, ART Rapids and various local art fair shows.
Not one to be idle, Linda is continually coming up with new ideas for projects and marketing ideas for her artwork. She has several product lines that you can find on this site. “Artsy Shades” (Readers and sunglasses). “Charlevoix Cottage Furniture & Design Company” (Painted Furniture). “Christmas in Charlevoix” (Ornaments).
Everyone has a bucket list. Linda and Jim took an early retirement. Jim from the Post Office and Linda from her graphics business. She now does her art full time and that leaves time for exploration and experimentation! A perfect time to try new things. Check out the Abstract section and follow her on Facebook or Instagram to see “work in progress” posts. You can also sign up for her newsletter at the bottom of the page. On that, she shares the story behind the painting with the posts.
Most artists paint in one style. Not only does Linda work in multiple mediums, she has different styles… depending on the requirement or the mood! An artist’s home “can be” a color palette and Linda’s is no exception. When you drive by her home you certainly know an artist lives there!
