Mushroom House Art!
Mushroom House Art Pure Charlevoix. Charlevoix is well known for the famous Mushroom Houses, Earl Young’s creation. Earl lived in Charlevoix from the time he was eleven until he died in 1975. He built 28 homes and 4 commercial buildings out of stone. They are also called “Knome homes” or “Hobbit Houses”. He designed them so that they are “one with nature” and they seem to “flow” with the landscape or grow right up out of the earth. Earl did very little excavating and almost no tree removal. He built the homes to “fit” the area.
