The Story Behind the Art

We have a plein air group here in Charlevoix and I paint with them once in awhile. I am normally a studio painter so it is hard for me to switch to Plein air painting, which means painting in the open air. It is a fun past time with the camaraderie of painting with other artists and getting together with friends to discuss art and compare styles and supplies. We usually have a critique late morning after painting for a few hours. I have painted with the group numerous times but not consistently. They joke with me when they have chosen a location that doesn’t have water because they know I struggle with green. Green in large quantities is a struggle for me. I prefer green as an accent color to blue… the blue of the sky and the lake. Give me a lake scene any day or a nice building and I am a Happy Camper. This location was on Ferry Road. Ferry Road is far from the lake. Lots of trees and lots of growth. It was still fun and we even had lunch!

I photographed Artwork in natural light. This brings out the true color of the painting. I try my best to match the colors in the photo to the artwork. Differences in color can occur due to calibrations of the computer/phone screens, and also the lighting conditions under which the artwork is viewed.
