“The Iris Sketch” is an original marker line drawing that is a loose, freeform sketch I did of a stand of iris that I have out in my garden. I needed to relax and loosen up before jumping into a larger canvas piece and wanted to work out the composition of a really complicated painting. Sometimes doing a quick sketch will clear my mind and help me relax, even if the subject matter isn’t the same, getting outside and doing a quick sketch of something unrelated will help me focus on the matter at hand and get my act together. I was able to focus better and work the rest of the afternoon on my other piece.
