About
Inside the Blue Door technically isn’t “fresh” off the easel, it is newly offered on my site. This was juried into the Art Rapids two week-long Experience Art Rapids event in Elk Rapids, Michigan. I debated selling it as it has a personal connection. There was a lot of attention at the event and on Facebook. Plus, there is a fun story to go along with it!
The Story
I was standing near the painting at the “meet and greet” opening day. A couple of ladies approached and one said to her friend, “I have been to that gallery, it is in Harbor Springs, I love it!” I said, “Oh are you sure you have been there?, Look closer at the painting.” She looked at me rather strangely and said, not too nicely, “I am quite sure!” I wasn’t trying to cause a problem but it bothers me when people act so “know it all” to impress someone when they themselves are not fully informed. I introduced myself and told them that I was the artist and that it was a painting of the entryway to my home. It was done politely to not embarrass the woman.
The room portrayed I call my sunshine room because it is sunny and bright, even on a cloudy day. I collect artwork from all over Michigan and a good number of my collection is in this room. It has a 17-foot ceiling and lots of windows. People walk and drive by my house all the time and have commented, wondering what was behind the blue door. I thought I would do a painting to satisfy their curiosity and I also enjoyed the challenge of the angles. The perspective was unusual. I have always admired artists who did interior studies. This turned out nicely so I think I will do a series. “Inside the Blue Door Original Painting” is the first.

All paintings are photographed in natural light to bring out the texture and true color of the painting. I try my best to match the colors in the photo to the artwork but slight differences may occur in color due to differences in monitor screens, and lighting conditions under which the artwork is viewed.
