The Story Behind the Art
Juilleret’s was a longtime favorite restaurant in Charlevoix that served wonderful breakfasts and the most unbelievable cinnamon toast you had ever had. You could buy a loaf of it and take it with you. I did it as often as I could. When I was in high school, we would cut class and hang out for breakfast. Dave Juilleret was the cook. Dan Juilleret was in my class. Becky, his sister, was in my brother’s class. Oh, the joy of a small town! Year’s passed. Ownership changed hands and it became very popular with the tourists. Lines for breakfast and lunch were the length of the building throughout the summer. But the new owners aged then wished to retire. The restaurant closed. The building was sold then torn down. A new, modern building now stands in its place. It has room for three businesses. Time moves on I guess and some may say it was time for the building to be replaced. But to an artist’s eye, this beautiful, colorful building had character and personality. It held many fond memories. I will miss it.
