Description
Parkside Restaurant of Charlevoix, Michigan. This package of 8 note cards measures 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches and includes envelopes. All cards are of the same image. The image is a reproduction of a painting of the Parkside Restaurant, a former Charlevoix restaurant overlooking Round Lake. The Parkside was owned and run by Leo and Gladys Markel until the early 1980’s when they retired and sold the building. The city ended up acquiring the building and tore it down to build the in expanded East Park and marina in 2008. The Parkside was a staple for summer people and locals alike. Their broiled whitefish, banana nut bread, and lemon poppyseed muffins were renowned. You knew it was the end of the summer season when Gladys put a sign in the window that would say “See You In Spring”. This painting was done as a study for the large outdoor fiberglass fish “Charle-Fish”, (17 scenes of Charlevoix) the Red Cross of Northern Michigan’s “Great Northern Fish-In” fundraiser. The finished painting also appeared on a chair on one of a series of dining room table and chair sets I did titled “Dining in Charlevoix” where the table featured a scene of the lighthouse and the four chairs sported four different restaurants in Charlevoix.
