Classic Charlevoix Lighthouse at Sunset – Magnet

Classic Charlevoix Lighthouse at Sunset. This magnet measures 2 inches by 3.5 inches. The image is a reproduction of a watercolor painting of the Charlevoix Lighthouse seen from sitting on the wall at Michigan Beach which is the most popular place in Charlevoix in the summer to watch the sunset. The beach is crowded, the cars are parked full circle and boats are scattered out from the pier opening spawning out in a large semi circle – bobbing in anticipation of one the beautiful west coast Northern Michigan sunsets. Sometimes people clap in appreciation as the fiery red ball sinks below the horizon line, car horns honk and boats air horns blast a salute to the end of a perfect summer evening.

I don’t paint with watercolor much anymore so this was a refreshing change, though at the time I struggled to get my mind around it. You see, with watercolors, you have to paint in reverse of oil or acrylic. You start with a light wash and then add your darks… plus if you mess up, most of the time it is not very forgiving. If you paint over it, it gets muddy. With oil or acrylic, you layer your paint and start with your dark areas first… plus you can cover any mistakes you make!
