The River’s Bend – Note Card by Linda Boss. This image is a reproduction of the original plein air painting painted in Grand Traverse County at a bend in a branch of the Boardman River. My friend Margie and I go trekking in her big four wheel drive Ford pick up looking for interesting places paint. It was hot this day and it was a second painting for us. This one was especially satisfying because I was able to match the colors so well. I took a pic of the painting on the easel and it blended right into the background. I find acrylics harder to get true natural colors than oils, especially out in the field. Margie is really opening my eyes to the world of plein air painting. She is a blast to hang out with and shares her experiences and gives me tips. It is fun to bounce ideas off of each other. She has watched me fight and curse and wrestle with acrylics drying out in the field and she is encouraging me to switch to oil. I have used oil in the studio… I’ve just been comfortable in what I’m used to… I just need the push… hell, I’m going to do it!
